Get Qualified Week 6
Get Qualified @ Manurewa High School
When: Week 6-8, Monday 16 November to Friday 4 December
Why: due to the impact of COVID-19 and the two-week delay in NCEA externals we have devised a programme for our senior students which differs from previous years. It takes account of student feedback as to what type of support they would like and a focus of not going on study leave until they are qualified for their next step.
What: does ‘qualified’ mean?
Qualified means collecting the qualifications you need for your positive next step in your pathway for next year 2021. For most students this will mean they have their respective Level 1, 2 or 3 qualification – some students may have their 48 credits but need to complete specific subject work to meet pre-requisites for either next year at MHS, University / further education or employment for 2021.
How: do students get signed off?
The student is to have a conversation with their Kaitiaki to ensure the Student Passport is complete. Kaitiaki will be checking the credits have been achieved on KAMAR and the student has met the pre-requites in any of the Get Qualified requirements i.e. subject endorsements, certificate endorsements, drivers license for employment etc.
Once this is done the student will take their checked completed passport to be signed off:
• by their Whanau Leader, Whanau Dean or Whanau DP
• during Akoranga 2 Thursday 12th Friday 13th November and the following week
• in the library
When the Student Passport is marked off, students will be given a letter confirming this and a copy will also be emailed home. Attendance will mark the student with the code F.
What: is the ‘alternative timetable’ talked about for Y12/13?
This is the individualised external examination preparation programme where students are in tutorials for the day before their external with their respective teacher.
If: a Y11 has finished all internals and externals, do they get released?
If they have received their qualification they will be released as per the process above, if they haven’t then they will be completing resits and/or specific workshops to support.
