Two senior physics teams won awards at the recent Otago University Innovation Challenge competition held late in term 2.
Four teams of physics students represented Manurewa High School at the competition, where different schools compete to grasp a selection of new technologies, and then apply/innovate a few to solve a real world problem in an entrepreneurial manner.
The students used powerpoint to present their solutions to a panel of judges, and had to show true understanding, good feasibility, clear and concise delivery, point of difference as well as a well identified market need.
Our teams were :
Affro Affect - Sean Davidson, Rama Martin and Grayson Nicholson.
Broton - Arden Infante, Amish Singh and Ryanel Reynon
The Raging Hadron - Lukey Zhou, Ranish Chand and Jessie Chen
Bright Spark - Adam Scott, Hayley Ngo and Kajal Raju
Science teacher Mrs Fenella Colyer said all the teams had great ideas and had bucketloads of enthusiasm and work ethic.
Team Affro Affect won the "Best Understanding of the Technology" award, and Team Raging Hadron won the award for "Audience choice". Mrs Colyer said she was very proud of them all, particularly for "overcoming extreme nerves to present their ideas to the judges, and for their creative thinking and solution focused ideas."
