Support Manurewa High students as they fundraise for Mental Health
Six Manurewa High School Prefects and Mentors with Foundation for Youth Development are fundraising to raise money for, and the profile of, the Mental Health Foundation. They will participate in the Dual – an annual event held at Motutapu and Rangitoto Island. Participants can compete in a range of events, including full and half marathons, mountain biking or 10 and 6km events.
Students are: Sean Davidson, Lupe Fifita, Ye Jee Lee, Helen Lesa, DeVontaye Matekeua and Cassandra Wilkinson. Mental health does not have the profile it should and we would like to do something positive to help educate people about what it is, how it affects people and what can be done to support people and fund research to learn more about it. http://www.mentalhealth.org.nz/
Mal Law who is running 50 peaks in 50 days will conclude his challenge at this event – this is a huge achievement. We will be there to cheer Mal over the line.
The students transport and registration has been sponsored by Partners Life – an organisation which has other involvement in supporting educational initiatives to help grow better futures for our students. As one of the sponsors of Foundation for Youth Development their involvement helps to make the Stars peer mentoring programme happen at schools like Manurewa High School. This programme has run successfully at our school for four years and has seen very positive results in building positive relationships between hundreds of our senior and junior students – helping to make the school feel like the great place it is.
